Coating with squeegee

Squeegee or also knife technique coating

  • knife on air : the fabric runs over a fixed knife, the squeegee or also called the doctor blade, the coating (lies in front of the knife) is scraped off. The deeper the knife is pushed into the fabric, the thinner the coating layer.
  • With this technique, viscous pastes or foaming coatings can be applied upon a large range of substrates with as purpose to bring on a coating weight of 10 to 250gr/m²
  • applications are watertight top-coatings for outdoor use, improved skid resistance of textile, introduction of fire retarders on upholstery, applying water-repellent foam coatings…
  • max width 3m10 on a stretcher-dryer
  • knife over table or also called gap-squeegee: the fabric is supported by the table, there is a gap between the knife and the fabric through which the coating runs. The opening size of the gap determines the thickness of the coating material on the fabric.
  • Using this technique, viscous pastes or foamed-up coatings can be introduced on a large range of substrates with as purpose to bring on a coating weight of 20 to 500 gr/m², thicknesses of 1 to 15 mm
  • is applied for instance to introduce a stable foam on wall covering. Especially comfort and insulating properties are important here; fire-retardant foam coatings are applied, prepreg for automotive finishing...
  • max width 3m10 on a stretcher-dryer
